Spyro Reignited Trilogy will be released on September 21st for Playstation 4 and Xbox One and will only set you back $39.99, much like its Crash predecessor.
It’s been about 20 years since the original Spyro the Dragon graced our consoles back on the Playstation 1 in 1998. Our little purple Dragon has had quite the tenure in video games, most recently his foray into the “Toys-to-Life” game model with the somewhat successful Skylanders title. Conveniently enough, Toys for Bob, the dev team responsible for Skylanders will be handling the remaster. It doesn’t take a genius to see that the success of Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy really struck a chord with Activision, or their pocket books.
This remaster, officially known as Spyro Reignited Trilogy, will compromise the first three games in the series. Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage, and Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon. These titles were formerly developed by Insomniac Games before they moved on to the Ratchet and Clank series, and more currently, Spider-Man for Playstation 4.
You can tell by the trailer that this game was completely remade from the ground up. All new lighting effects, a much welcome improvement to the camera, as well as smoother controls and full support for analog stick control.
Thanks to a short, but effective interview by IGN, we also learned that the original development team of Insomniac had nothing to do with the creation of this remaster other than their nodding head of approval for the direction of gameplay and art style Toys for Bob took.
The team at Toys for Bob were also pleased to announce that fan favorite voice of Spyro would be making his prolific return to the role. Yes, we are referring to the Tom Kenny. Tom Kenny is most famously known for his role as Spongebob SquarePants, the Ice King from Adventure Time, and Rocko’s Modern Life. Tom Kenny wasn’t actually the voice of Spyro in the first game, but later came in on the secondary and tertiary titles, fans immediately fell in love with his rendition of Spyro the Dragon.
